Biblical Studies Carnival - Mad as a March Hare 2017 5/5

Greek

James McGrath wants to be able to chat with you about the weather in Koine Greek, and ask you to pass the remote control, etc.

Dustin Martyr has a pod cast that among other things will learn you how to use a semantic field to cook bacon . . . or do a word study. I'm not sure which, he has the word bacon on his website and it is hard not to be distracted by it.

K.W. Leslie has been thinking about all the different words we might translate as "Hell". - I've got another one, reading Moltmann auf Deutsch.

What would a really linguistic approach to Greek analysis look like? Christoph Heilig has some thoughts. Basically, we've all been doing it wrong. Ooops.

Babatha's Orchard!

Loren Rossen really likes Eslers new book on Babatha and wishes NT scholars would take a leaf out of his book. Ekaterini Tsalampouni also notes it.

But if you can't get hold of the book, Philip Esler can give you the skinny. Or if that is still too much for you, the soy-latte version.

Misc. Biblical

Michael Kruger thinks the authors of the NT knew what they were doing.

Gordon MacNeil writes his first blog post on Palpatine's Way on the Noble Lie in Faith Traditions.

Tim Mitchell contemplates the material the NT was written on.

Matt Emerson talks about the theological moorings of canonical readings.

Anthony le Donne ponders Biblical dentistry and did Jesus need fillings?

Sean Adams and Seth Ehorn tout their book on composite citations in antiquity.

Karin Neutal discusses cutting bits of your penis and being a man about it.

Tony Burke will teach you how to curse like an apostle (Acts of the Apostles).

April DeeDeConick is writing about the enduring power of gnosticism.

There is a call for papers for a brand spanking new Biblical Performance Critical Journal.

David Congdon's One Man Twitter Tsunami

For those of you not on Twitter (I get it, I was a late bloomer myself) David Congdon's Twitter Seminary is a spectacular and positively riveting display of scholarship and creativity, in short bursts of text. He also has a nice "storm" on Evangelicals and Post Liberalism.

Comforting Advice

Randal Rauser wants the conversation to begin, not end with the phrase "That's not biblical"

Scot McKnight wants pastors to join him him for a DMin in New testament Context and a nice cup-o-tea.

While the McMaster Divinity College wants you to do a PhD in the Septugint with free cuddles from Stanley Porter on every Tuesday afternoon.

Charles Hedrick tells you God doesn't have a wonderful plan for your life

Politics and Bible

It's too late for you to win the free registration but you could still pay to go to the Bible and Politics conference at St Mary's Uni.

Jim Gordon has some thoughts on rendering to Ceasar [HTBob] and Vinoth Ramachandra is reconsidering the colonial legacy [HTBob] and Scot McKnight is also reading about Bible use in US politics. He reads a lot of books that guy.

Tim Bulkeley challenges evangelicals about contraception.

Deane Galbraith (via twitter) asks if Biblical Studies perpetuate racialism?

Jim West protests the lack of diversity at SBL and offers a solution.

James Crossley talks apocalyptic and martyrs

Family News

Congrats to Nick Norelli on his expanding tribe, and we hope to see him blogging again soon!

Torrey Seland reports the sad news of L.H. Feldman's passing.

Concluding Unscientific Postscript

Well there you have it, there really is a lot of good stuff out there. A lot of work going into the noble art of Biblioblogging. Thanks for coming along for the ride. Do leave a comment so I know you've been by. Do keep blogging so there is plenty of fodder for the next one. Above all, make sure you take all your litter home with you and if you won a cuddly toy don't tease your sister about it.
